Theaster Gates: 12 Ballads for Hugenot House
12 Ballads for Hugenot House chronicles a project by Theaster Gates, in which he united two disused buildings, one in Chicago and the other in Kasel, Germany, by dismantling parts in each to reuse in the rebuilding of the other. Gates proposed an architectural exchange, transporting materials from a dilapidated building in Chicago to renovate Hugenot House, while reusing materials from Hugenot House to reconstruct the Chicago building.
DNA, by Carlos Bunga
DNA is an artist book by Carlos Bunga, representing not a finished document, but an open space to question. According to Bunga, it was made to function as a dictionary or botanical conceptual document, with the intention of not being representative of his work, but rather an approximation of his thought. Bunga’s project Under the Skin, commissioned by the Chicago Architecture Biennial, is on view at the Stony Island Arts Bank until January 27, 2016.
