Introducing: Southside Teen Poet Ambassadors Program

The Rebuild Foundation is piloting its first ever Southside Teen Poet Ambassadors Program, a program designed to cultivate a cohort of six disciplined, ambitious high school poets for a six-month ambassadorship from January-June 2018.

Using the Stony Island Arts Bank as their home base, the Southside Teen Poet Ambassadors will write and critique extensively within their intimate cohort through weekly reading + writing workshops; learn from professional artists + community leaders who will feature as “guest speakers” at workshops; network with other Chicago/ National Teen Poet Laureates through teen-led workshops + events within the community; explore different southside neighborhoods; and engage in discussions about Chicago, storytelling, community, and the importance of poetry in urban spaces. As a culmination to their 6-month ambassadorship, the teens will work together to create a final community project and showcase that demonstrates their personal portfolio and ambassadorship term.

To apply, please send a short bio and a writing sample of 3-5 poems to Rebuild’s Education + Outreach Fellow, Natalie Rose Richardson, at Application deadline: December 1st.
