The Watts Riots of 1965 were the City of Los Angeles most crucial unrest until the Rodney King riots of 1992. To commemorate the seventh anniversary of the riots held in 1965, a benefit concert that took place at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum was held featuring artists like Isaac Hayes, Rufus Thomas, The Emotion, etc.
Join DJ Duane Powell for a special screening of Wattstax at the Stony Island Arts Bank. Following the screening, Duane Powell will be discussing the music of the era, the significance music played for activism and protest as well as the legacy of the benefit. Showtime will begin exactly at 7:45pm.
