This 1969 classic, directed and written by Gordon Parks, tells a story of Newt, a Black teen in 1920’s Kansas. Newt remains calm in the face of racism, contrastive to his fast- tempered friend, Marcus. When Marcus’ father murders a man and Newt bears witness to the crime, the young protagonist is torn between what he thinks is right but would jeopardize a friendship and a life.
