MB Sings hand up (1)

Abbey Lincoln grew up not very far from the Stony Island Arts Bank, in East Chicago, Illinois. Appearing on the big screen at first as a movie star and nightclub singer, Lincoln later forged a musical career which had an impact on the music world which is little known about, but widely felt. A pioneer of sporting a look that was “Afrocentric” before the word had been realized, Abbey broke the mold of the pin-up chanteuse and proclaimed an independence and intelligence the recording industry had not known in female, jazz vocalists. Abbey was much more and that is explored when: “MAGGIE SINGS ABBEY.”
