In Search of the Black Knight

In Search of the Black Knight is a humorous and thought-provoking documentary on a topic that is often on the tongues of professional black women: the shortage of eligible black men. There are many theories on why this problem exists: education, prison and the “down low” to name a few. Follow film director Tamarat Makonnen as he travels across the country in an attempt to find the truth behind this divisive topic. Combining professional advice, street interviews and sketch comedy, this light-hearted film will have you rethinking what you assumed about the opposite sex. (Tamarat Makonnen, 2013, 102 min, digital video).
Film scholar Sergio Mims, programmer of Chicago’s Black Harvest Film Festival and writer for Indiewire’s Shadow and Act blog, will introduce the film and then lead an informal discussion following the screening.
