Global Girls

Join Black Cinema House to celebrate our fabulous friends at Global Girls, and their upcoming trips to Grenada, West Indies and Mombasa, Kenya, with an evening of dance performance, girl-power films and fun!

Meet the young travelers on the eve of their adventure, hear from Global Girls director Marvinetta Woodley-Penn, and help kick-off their journey with an inspiring, empowering evening.

Global Girls Inc. is an engaging, cutting-edge youth performing arts organization in the South Shore neighborhood of Chicago. They provide a safe space where girls ages 8-18 learn communication, presentation and performance skills. Over 1200 girls participate annually in community and school based arts education initiatives, workshops and conferences. During the weekly sessions, participants learn skills to investigate their world and then turn their findings into performance pieces. The result is socially conscious, youth driven theater that gives voice to girls’ issues and concerns. As participants learn dance, acting and story crafting skills, they also learn communication, presentation and leadership skills: essential social/emotional skills that can transform lives, influence families and empower communities.
