In this monthly series, friends of Rebuild Foundation have been invited to explore and activate Rebuild Foundation’s glass lantern slide collection as historians, scholars, and artists.

The Stony Island Arts Bank is home to more than 60,000 glass lantern slides acquired from the Department of Art History at the University of Chicago. They cover art and architectural history from the Paleolithic period to the Modern era, and became obsolete when scholars transitioned to 35mm slides and, eventually, digital projections.

Glass Lantern Slide Lectures are made possible by the Chicago Architecture Biennial. For the duration of the Biennial, these talks will especially focus on the architecture and design holdings of the collection.
