Chicago Free Black Women’s Library Pop-up


Inspired by The Free Black Women’s Library, a monthly mobile library pop-up organized by Ola Ronke in NYC, a small group of Black women in Chicago have come together for the 2nd year to celebrate Black women and girls through books.

This day-long event will be centered on a free library of books written by or about Black women and girls. Join us for healing sessions, teach-ins, collage/bookmaking workshops, readings (including the Johnson Publishing Archive + Collections), etc. Attendees will be able to take and share books throughout the day. Bring a book and take a book.

PLEASE NOTE: We are currently seeking book donations written by or about Black women and girls. If you have donations, you can drop them off at locations throughout the city listed below. You can also bring your books during the day of the event or schedule a pick-up by emailing
