Rebuild Foundation’s Artists in Residence the AACM Great Black Music Ensemble perform the first Sunday of every month at the Stony Island Arts Bank. As a premier performing group of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians, Inc. (AACM), Great Black Music Ensemble features some of Chicago’s most visionary artists of improvisation and creative music.

An intergenerational ensemble ranging in size from three to thirty pieces, Great Black Music Ensemble performs historical repertoire from the great pool of AACM composers, led by Ernest Dawkins. The GBM Ensemble carries on the legacy of Chicago’s South Side creative music that made its place on the music history map by expressing the excitement of new sounds and rhythms, while invigorating the traditions of black music including funk, reggae, bebop, swing, and African and Caribbean styles.

All are welcome, cocktails, beer, wine, and nonalcoholic beverages available for purchase in the Johnson bar. The AACM Great Black Music Ensemble performs the first Sunday of each month at the Arts Bank, free and open to the public.
