On Friday, April 21, 2017, we learned our Twitter account was hacked. We immediately took steps to delete the tweet, secure our account, and began an investigation. This includes working with Twitter, the FBI, and the Chicago Police Department to identify those responsible. As the core values of our organization were called into question, we feel the need to respond appropriately to the allegations and demands.

Specifically, these demands express misconceptions about the work that we do. Rebuild Foundation supports and strengthens our community through culture-based, artist-led, neighborhood-driven transformation, guided by our core values: black people matter, black spaces matter, and black things matter. Our intent is to ensure that our investment—providing free arts programming, developing new cultural amenities, and creating opportunities for business incubation and skills training—and the resources our work attracts to the South Side of Chicago, stays local and benefits residents.

Rebuild Foundation is an equal employment opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, age, handicap, religion, national origin, or any other basis prohibited by applicable law. We provide all employees with a work environment free of discrimination and harassment. We are committed to serving and advancing the careers of black artists and administrators of color.

Rebuild Foundation will host a public forum in the near future for a conversation with current and former staff, black artists, and neighbors. Watch this space for updates. For direct inquiries, please contact info@rebuild-foundation.org.
