Steve Coleman and Five Elements Residency

Originally from the South Side of Chicago, saxophonist Steve Coleman is in the midst of his South Side focused artist residency with the members of his Five Elements Band, who are presenting an intense month of performances, workshops, open rehearsals and many other outreach programs for the community. Their main venue of activities is the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts. The residency will conclude on August 6th in a final grand performance in Millennium Park as part of the Made in Chicago concert series.

On Wednesday, July 22nd, Rebuild Foundation was delighted to have Steve and Five Elements perform for neighbors at the Dorchester Art + Housing Collaborative. They completely captivated the Greater Grand Crossing community, calling out to all who passed by with their surging melodies. It was an amazing experience to be in this semi-private concert, taking the performance to a higher level every time Steve Coleman interacted with the audience after each song. He also invited a third saxophonist and colleague to join in on the fun.

Rebuild invites everyone to join Steve Coleman and Five Elements for an open rehearsal tomorrow Saturday, July 25th at DA+HC, as part of his community outreach program, free of charge! This will be a great opportunity to come interact with the musicians and experience, with open doors, two hours of good music and collaboration starting at 2pm.

We look forward to seeing you there!
